FSCJ Baseball Takes All Three from South Florida State

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida State College at Jacksonville baseball team put on an impressive show this weekend, sweeping South Florida State College in a three-game series and outscoring the Panthers by a commanding 26-10 margin.

Game 1: FSCJ 10, South Florida State 2

FSCJ cruised to a 10-2 victory on Friday behind a stellar pitching performance from Carson and a relentless 13-hit offensive attack.

Collins got the Manta Rays on the board early with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. FSCJ kept the momentum rolling in the second, adding two more runs on a bases-loaded walk to Martineau and an RBI groundout by Newman. The offense exploded in the third with Prudencio and Daneault delivering RBI singles in a three-run frame.

Carson was outstanding on the mound, working seven strong innings and allowing just two runs on seven hits with one strikeout and two walks. Meanwhile, the Panthers' starter struggled mightily, lasting only 2⅓ innings while surrendering six runs on four hits and five walks.

Newman paced the offense, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Collins, Vazquez, Gonzalez, Newman and Morales each collected two hits in the balanced attack. The Manta Rays played flawless defense, committing no errors and turning three double plays.

Game 2: FSCJ 10, South Florida State 4

FSCJ showed tremendous resilience Saturday, rallying from a four-run deficit with an explosive nine-run seventh inning to defeat South Florida State 10-4 in thrilling fashion.

The Panthers jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning on two two-run hits off FSCJ starter Newman, who lasted just one inning and allowed four runs on three hits.

But Bradley was absolutely brilliant in relief, tossing three hitless innings while striking out four and walking four to keep the Manta Rays in the game. The Panthers' starter battled through six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.

FSCJ's dramatic seventh-inning rally began with an RBI walk by Martineau. Newman delivered a clutch two-run single, Collins ripped a two-run double, Hartsell drove in a run with a single, Gonzalez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Daneault capped the incredible rally with a two-run single.

Collins, Newman, Daneault and Martineau each drove in two runs. Martineau went 2-for-4 to lead the hit parade.

Game 3: FSCJ 6, South Florida State 4

FSCJ built a comfortable six-run cushion and weathered a late rally to complete the sweep with a hard-fought 6-4 victory Saturday.

Daneault got things started with an RBI double in the second inning. FSCJ extended the lead in the third on a sacrifice fly by Vazquez and an RBI single by Morales.

Hansen was masterful on the mound, firing seven shutout innings while allowing just two hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Caraynoff slammed the door with 1⅔ scoreless innings in relief, surrendering no hits and striking out two. The Panthers' starter labored through six innings, giving up six runs on 13 hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

South Florida State mounted a spirited comeback attempt with four runs in the late innings, but the Manta Rays held strong to secure the sweep.

FSCJ pounded out 16 hits in the finale. Newman led the way, going 3-for-5. Collins, Vazquez, Morales, Daneault, Disbrow and Martineau each drove in a run, while Gonzalez and Prudencio contributed multiple hits.
