The FSCJ Manta Rays traveled to Pasco-Hernando State College for a three-game series against the Bobcats, coming away with a 1-2 record over the weekend.
Game 1: Bobcats 9, Manta Rays 2
FSCJ struggled to generate consistent offense in Friday's series opener, managing just six hits in a 9-2 defeat. The Manta Rays drew first blood when Newman delivered an RBI single in the opening frame, but Pasco-Hernando answered immediately with two solo home runs to seize a 2-1 advantage.
The Bobcats extended their lead to 3-1 in the third inning before Morales provided a brief spark with a solo home run to right field in the fifth. However, FSCJ's offense stalled from there as Pasco-Hernando pulled away.
Carson took the loss for the Manta Rays, surrendering four runs on eight hits over 3.1 innings while recording three strikeouts and one walk. Newman and Morales each drove in a run in the losing effort.
Game 2: Manta Rays 11, Bobcats 4
The Manta Rays bounced back emphatically in Saturday's first game, erupting for 13 hits in an 11-4 victory that evened the series. After falling behind 4-3 through five innings, FSCJ seized control with a decisive six-run sixth inning that featured six hits, including a two-RBI single by Daneault that broke the game open.
Vazquez paced the offensive attack with two hits and two RBIs, while Gonzalez, Daneault, Disbrow, and Prudencio also collected two hits apiece. Gonzalez and Daneault each contributed two RBIs as the Manta Rays showcased their depth throughout the lineup.
Musgrove was outstanding in relief, tossing five innings of one-run ball on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks to earn the victory. Owen Wilfong started for FSCJ, allowing three runs (two earned) over two innings.
Game 3: Bobcats 10, Manta Rays 5
Despite out-hitting Pasco-Hernando 11-10 in the series finale, the Manta Rays couldn't hold an early lead and fell 10-5 in the nightcap. FSCJ jumped ahead 4-0 by the fifth inning behind solo home runs from Daneault in the first and Newman in the third, but the Bobcats mounted a furious comeback.
Pasco-Hernando seized control with a four-run seventh inning that included an RBI single, a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, and a two-run single to take a 6-4 lead they would not relinquish.
Vazquez led the Manta Rays with three hits, while Newman went 2-for-5 with a team-high two RBIs. Prudencio added two hits in the loss. Hansen started for FSCJ and pitched effectively through 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
