In a tightly contested matchup, the Florida State College at Jacksonville baseball team earned a 3–2 victory over the Daytona State Falcons on Friday, with pitching dominating throughout the game.
FSCJ broke through in the fourth inning when MacGillivray delivered an RBI single to open the scoring. That proved crucial in a game where runs were hard to come by.
Glover set the tone on the mound for the Manta Rays, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. He struck out five and walked two, recording 12 outs in a strong start. Borton matched him early for Daytona State, giving up three hits and two runs over five innings while striking out nine. Out of the bullpen, Barry was lights out for FSCJ, throwing two no-hit innings with four strikeouts and no walks to secure the win.
MacGillivray led FSCJ with one RBI, finishing 1-for-4. Martineau paced the offense with two hits in five at-bats. The Manta Rays applied pressure on the base paths, as Seifert and Disbrow each stole multiple bases. In total, FSCJ swiped seven bags in the game.
Defensively, the Manta Rays were flawless, committing no errors.
FSCJ Manta Rays Fall Late to Daytona State, 6–5
January 31, 2026 – vs. Daytona State Falcons
The FSCJ Manta Rays battled until the final innings but came up short in a 6–5 loss to the Daytona State Falcons on Saturday at FSCJ North Campus. The game was tied at five in the top of the eighth when Lopez delivered an RBI single to give the Falcons the lead for good.
Despite out-hitting Daytona State 9–8, FSCJ could not hold off the late surge. Newman and Martineau each recorded two hits to pace the offense.
Daytona State struck first in the third inning on a solo home run by Lopez. FSCJ answered in the fourth when Newman launched a home run to center field to give the Manta Rays a 2–1 advantage. The Falcons tied the game in the sixth on an RBI single by Wilson.
FSCJ regained control in the bottom of the seventh. Gonzalez doubled to drive in two runs, and a Daytona State error allowed another run to score, pushing the Manta Rays ahead 5–2. However, the Falcons responded in the eighth with a three-run homer by Falloon, followed by an RBI single from Lopez to complete the comeback.
Carson started for FSCJ, allowing one run on two hits over five innings while striking out two and walking two. Beard earned the win in relief for Daytona State, tossing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
Gonzalez and Newman each drove in two runs for the Manta Rays in the tough loss.
