Manta Rays Open Beach Volleyball Season in Leesburg
The Florida State College at Jacksonville beach volleyball team is set to open its 2026 season on Friday, February 6, with a tri-match in Leesburg, Florida. FSCJ will face conference opponents Lake-Sumter State College and Palm Beach State College in its first competition of the spring.
The Manta Rays will open the day against the Lake-Sumter State College LakeHawks at 10:00 a.m., followed by a noon matchup versus the Palm Beach State College Panthers. The season opener provides an early opportunity for FSCJ to measure itself against familiar Sun Lakes Conference opponents.
FSCJ enters the season with a refreshed and balanced roster, welcoming 10 new players while returning eight experienced competitors from last year's roster. The blend of new talent and veteran presence has added depth and versatility across the pair lineup, as the Manta Rays focus on developing pair chemistry and consistency on the sand.
Friday's matches will serve as an important early test as FSCJ continues to build its identity in the sand and establish rhythm across all pairs. With two competitive programs on the schedule, the Leesburg tri-match offers valuable match play and a strong foundation for what lies ahead in Manta Rays beach season.
Head Coach Chelsea Hinck is optimistic about what lies ahead, noting the experience and growth within the program. "Having the most experienced beach roster in program history allows us to be intentional in how we train and compete," Hinck said. "Our athletes understand the demands of the beach game, and that gives us the ability to raise standards, challenge depth, and compete at a high level across all pairs. This season is about consistency, growth, and putting ourselves in position to be at our best when it matters most."
"This season is also elevated by the presence of assistant coach and beach alumni Hana Roberts," said Hinck. "Coach Hana brings a deep understanding of this program and the beach game, and her ability to support our pairs in the box will be invaluable. Having someone who has competed in these moments, understands match flow, and can communicate adjustments in real time gives our athletes another level of confidence and clarity. Her perspective strengthens our staff and enhances how we manage competition throughout the season."
First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., as the Manta Rays look to make an early statement and set the tone for the 2026 beach volleyball season.
